State department gifted education specialists Shirley Farrell and Erinn Floyd provided professional development and monitoring for JEFCOED Gifted teachers February 16. Discussion and question and answer sessions were incisive and covered many topics, including activity versus real life situation and culminating performance tasks. There are 61,414 gifted students within Alabama and Jefferson County Schools has 3,396. The purpose of the meeting was to help teachers deepen the curriculum challenge for these students and to provide needed support from the state department for them.
