Gresham Gobbles Good Books and Rocks

This is the image for the news article titled Gresham Gobbles Good Books and RocksNovember is Family Reading Month and Gresham Elementary librarian Angela Moorer for three years running celebrates and encourages her school to love books and literature with a Book Feast at Thanksgiving. On Friday, November 18, 2016, 18 COB guests and parents were invited to come listen and learn from students talking about books. There was much animated conversation as Blake Frazier, Robby Naylor, Dr. Anna Vacca and Janet Hagood from the central office building engaged the children.
A continuous reading celebration includes the Lunch Bunch Book Clubs by grades in which students read and discuss a book. In November go up grade level posters go up on the walls encouraging reading. Also, family reading is encouraged with a “Look What we are Reading” bulletin board in which parents write to the school the a letter about the books they are reading with their children.
A Gobble Up a Great Book wall mural has colorful paper feathers making its body and children proudly show their parents their feather in the turkey’s tail.
Also, going on the week after the national presidential election was a Gresham School local election for school president. Fourth and fifth graders had their campaign posters up vying for the top job. One student was encouraged in his campaign speech to include ,”Vote for me and get free ice cream if you pay for it yourself.” The presidential winner has yet to be declared.
