They are President Miriam Miles, Vice President LaQuisha Fisher, Treasurer Amber Gardner, and LaNayia White, secretary. Volunteer coordinator Marcus Wharton was also elected by acclamation.

Some goals for the school according to the principal Bert Stewart and President Miles are involving more parents in the instructional support of their children and being a better advocate for change by working with local legislators to tell the education story better.

At the open house ARI reading specialist Keneisha Alford discussed the new grading system for students. She used a cupcake analogy to discuss different levels of preparation and students’ grasping different concepts and the mastery of each.

Representative Juandalynn Givan gave a $10,000 check to the enthusiastic crowd. The money can be used for any school need including the possibility of technology for the new area elementary school that is to be built under JEFCOED’s capital campaign.

After seeing a video in the library about being a Title I school, parents and guests toured the classroom and chatted with teachers.
